Cinelux is run by myself, David Morgan Jones & is currently a single-person operation based in the UK. My personal background in filmmaking has been, and continues to be working as a camera operator on smaller but high-quality productions.
This is my biggest source of inspiration for product ideas, as there are so many constraints when you are working on these types of productions. You always want to achieve the highest quality results but you have limited resources & time to do so.
You learn quickly that the effectiveness of anything you use, is crucial to achieving that. After every shoot I do, I always make notes of what would have made that shoot better and I research solutions. This usually results in swapping, renting or buying new equipment to try out, and see if it improves the quality of next shoot.
But certain solutions either don't exist, are implemented poorly or are simply too costly to purchase & that's a big part of why I created Cinelux.
My Vision going forward is to build upon lenses and cinematography tools that are currently available, either by re-housing, modifying or re-creating them for new applications. With the ultimate aim being to create completely new ways of approaching camera and lens setups.
The mission is simple, to create welll thought-out, diverse, & robust products at the highest posible quality, to solve universal & also unique problems camera operators face with different setups.
My motivation has come from a genuine passion for filming & a huge interest in cinema cameras and lenses. As I started to repair and create my own solutions, the enjoyment I got from the experimentation and also the risk-taking was a huge source of motivation. I actively look forward to both those elements when creating the products & services Cinelux offers.
Those elements have been the driving force to bring Cinelux to where it is right now & any future product or service will always be a collaboration of those factors.
From the outset, I have always wanted Cinelux to only have a positive impact, & to achieve that I am making sure that resources used and any carbon footprint created are 150% offset at no cost to the buyer or the planet.
I try and offset not just the products themselves but also everything I can realistically think of and is estimated as accurately as possible. This includes all emissions created by designing, manufacturing & shipping the items.
These are offset annually using the not-for-profit project - My Carbon Plan
Other ways I am doing so is by making the product packing environmentally friendly with the uses of Paper tapes and packaging when possible and also by using aluminium tin cans that can be widly recycled for the main packaging. I have listed in more detail in the F.A.Q, but the majority of the packaging also use Vegan / Plant based glues and materials.
